The Huntington University men's basketball team kept its undefeated season rolling with a 95-63 blowout win over visiting Silver Lake College on Saturday, Dec. 14.
The Foresters ran their record to 12-0 by scorching the nets. Five players scored in double figures for Coach Ty Platt's squad, which nailed 36 of 61 from the field for 59 percent and all 12 of its free throw attempts. The Forester clicked on 11 of 24 shots from three-point land for 45.8 percent.
Huntington opened the game with a 16-2 run that put things out of reach early. Senior Shane Merryman got it started with back-to-back buckets, followed by freshman Derek Hinen getting a basket and then assisting on a field goal by junior Alec Peterson. Senior Tyler Ault blew things open even further with a pair of three-pointers and Merryman capped the run with two freebies.
The Foresters led 54-27 at halftime and outscored the Lakers 41-36 after the break to take the game to its final tally.
Merryman made 6 of 7 from the floor and each of his eight free throw attempts to lead all scorers with 20 points. Senior TJ Short produced 13 points and a game-high seven assists. Peterson and junior Ryan Boester added 12 points apiece and Ault tossed in 11.
Huntington enjoyed a 39-23 advantage on the boards, with Merryman and Peterson each collecting eight.
Led by Short, the Foresters collected 26 assists on their 36 baskets. Merryman added five dimes to his night's work.
Anthony Parker scored 13 points and Kyle Lundberg netted 10 to pace Silver Lake, 3-12.
The Lakers finished 23 of 51 from the field for 41.8 percent and 13 of 20 at the line for 65 percent.
