Dale N. Alles, 87, of Roanoke, IN, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at 3:47 a.m. at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Alles was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy who served as a plane captain on the aircraft carrier USS Monterey. He was a mail carrier in Roanoke for 12 years. He farmed for almost 50 years in Huntington and Whitley Counties and he called square dancing for more than 40 years. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Roanoke and was also a member of the American Legion Post 160 of Roanoke.
He was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Whitley County to Philip and Freida Ness Alles. He married Naomi M. Geels on May 5, 1951, in Decatur. She preceded him in death on July 15, 2002.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis Alles, of Roanoke; Patrick (Denise) Alles, of Roanoke; and Joseph Alles, of Chapel Hill, TN; six daughters: Janet (Michael) Sheets of Waynedale; Carol (Kevin) Stopher and Lisa (Kevin) Sauter, both of Fort Wayne; Diane (Jerry) Eckert of Huntington; and Barbara Carroll and Mary (Terry) Smith, both of Roanoke; a son-in-law, Terry Hattendorf, of Huntington; a brother, Devon (Dorothy) Alles, of New Haven; a sister; Patricia (Francis) Laux, of Bryant; 23 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Calling is Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. Calling will also be Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, from 8:30 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 641 N. Main St., Roanoke. Rev. Dale Bauman will officiate.
Interment will take place at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Roanoke.
