Preliminary assessment results for the spring 2013 ISTEP+ results are now available.
The Indiana Department of Education reports a 75.7 percent overall passing rate for Huntington County Community School Corporation.
According to the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), "The purpose of the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress Plus (ISTEP+) program is to measure student achievement in the subject areas of English/language arts, mathematics, science (grades 4 and 6) and social studies (grades 5 and 7).
"In particular, ISTEP+ reports student achievement levels according to the Indiana Academic Standards that were adopted by the Indiana State Board of Education. An Applied Skills Assessment and a Multiple-Choice Assessment, which are required components of the ISTEP+ program, are used to measure these standards."
In the preliminary results reported on Wednesday, Sept. 18, the science scores were not included. The IDOE says they anticipate science scores to be released in October.
For the English/language arts portion of the assessment, 82.4 percent of HCCSC passed, and 83.7 percent passed the math portion.
At Huntington Catholic School 75.3 percent of the student population passed the assessment, with 82.5 percent passing the ELA portion and the same amount passing the math portion.
Parents of students may access their students' scores by visiting www.inparentnetwork.com .
Parents may also request a rescore of open-ended items/essay. Requests for a rescore must be submitted to the school by Sept. 30.
Superintendent Tracey Shafer says this first round of scores will be more fine-tuned over the coming months, and he expects a report of "full, clean" scores in early November.
