Mary Jane Mecklenburg, 86, a former resident of Hartford City, IN, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at 4:30 p.m. at Heritage Pointe, in Warren, IN.
Mrs. Mecklenburg graduated from Grand View High School, in Columbus, OH, in 1944 and earned a bachelor's degree in teaching from The Ohio State University in 1948. She received her master's degree in 1970 from Ball State University.
She taught kindergarten, special education and reading in the Blackford County schools. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hartford City, Blackford County Teacher's Association and Indiana State Teachers Association. She was an honorary member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority and the Research Club.
She was born Oct. 2, 1926, in Portsmouth, OH, to Joseph and Helen L. Dyer Rowntree. She married Alfred C. "Max" Mecklenburg in June, 1947, in the Methodist Church in Columbus, OH. Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Helen L. (Bill) Musselman, of Hartford City; a son, Alfred C. "Al" (Diane Parson) Mecklenburg III, of Salt Lake City, UT; five grandchildren, Kimberly Osborne, Elizabeth Adams, Kate Wright, Keli Penrod and Alison Thompson; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A service was held on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church, Hartford City. Burial was at the Hartford City Cemetery.
