Arthur W. Adams, 88, of Decatur, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Ossian Health & Rehabilitation, in Ossian.
Mr. Adams served in the United States Army during World War II. He retired in 1982 from Rea Magnet Wire, where he had worked for 37 years.
He was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ, in Magley, and American Legion Post 43. He was a past president of the Preble Volunteer Fireman's Association.
He was born Oct. 11, 1924, in Fort Wayne to Joseph J. and Blanche B. Workman Adam. He married Vera J. Scherry on July 2, 1949, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 7, 2007.
Survivors include two sons, Ricky W. (Donna) Adam, of Bluffton, and Dennis W. Adam, of Huntington; a daughter, Cheryl L. (Darrell) Heyerly, of Decatur; four grandchildren, Joey Ann (Red) Ray, of Fort Wayne; Roy (Kristen) Adam, of Poe; Michelle (Craig) Simon, of Bluffton; and Adam Heyerly, of Decatur; and two great-grandchildren.
Calling is Monday, June 17, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, 520 N. Second St., Decatur. A service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Rev. David Butz will officiate. Interment will be at the Salem U.C.C. Cemetery, Magley, with military services conducted by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
