The Huntington County Soil and Water Conservation District has funding available through a Clean Water Indiana Grant for landowners who have property in the Salamonie River Watershed area.
Landowners can receive an incentive payment for installation of conservation practices.
This incentive is being offered to landowners to install various conservation practices that will help reduce nutrients and sediments from entering our rivers and streams.
These contaminates have been indentified as a source of concern in the Salamonie River Watershed in contributing to sediment plumes such as the Blue-green Algae that can affect the quality of water.
Since the Salamonie River Watershed is not targeted as a watershed that is eligible for the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) or the Mississippi River Basin Initiative (MRBI) this program will provide an incentive payment to landowners for installing conservation practices in this watershed.
Landowners will be offered incentive payments per acre to install conservation practices such as hardwood tree plantings, riparian buffers, bottomland timber plantings, native grass plantings, wildlife habitat plantings, filter strips, field borders and cover crop seeding.
