The Huntington North High School varsity baseball team trailed visiting Carroll 11-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning on Wednesday, April 17, when a big rally tightened things up, but not enough to carry the Vikings to victory as the team lost 11-8.
Huntington North was behind only 3-2 going into the fourth inning when the Chargers plated five to make things 8-2. The Vikings' hole got even deeper in the sixth when Carroll picked up three insurance runs.
Huntington North bats, though, finally heated up in the seventh. The Vikings put six runs on the scoreboard, but the rally ended when Carroll's hurler got Heaston Schwob to ground out.
Andrew Broderick led the Vikings, 4-3, with a 2 for 3 performance at the plate that included a run batted in and two runs scored. Caleb Richison went 2 for 3 with two RBI and Matt Hogan, Devon Goelz and Derek Snyder each smacked an RBI for the Huntington North cause.
Grant Inman's four RBI paced the Chargers while Drue Tranquill's two RBI and three runs also helped.
Quinton Smith got tagged with the loss for the Vikings after surrendering seven hits and six earned runs in 3.2 innings of work.
Mason Neuman was the winning pitcher, scattering seven hits across six innings while fanning nine.
