The Huntington North High School girls' varsity bowling team swept the top three spots at the Hoosier Conference Sectional on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Haworth Lanes in Berne.
Junior Alex Rittenhouse won the sectional title, fellow junior Ashley Clark took second place and freshman Mackenzie Faurote captured third.
Thirty bowlers including seven Lady Vikings threw three qualifying games for a chance to advance to regional, with only the top five scores advancing. Clark led qualifying with a 590, Rittenhouse was second with a 553 and Faurote rounded out the top three with a 540.
The top four girls met in a stepladder final to determine the sectional champion. In the first match, Faurote downed fourth-seeded Rachel Vogler of Jay County, 214-158, to advance to the next match and face Rittenhouse. In that match, Rittenhouse rolled a commanding 240 against Faurote's 172 to move on to the championship match for a showdown with Clark. In a match where the lead changed several times, Rittenhouse eventually outpaced Clark, 152-135, for the sectional crown.
Other Lady Vikings competing but not advancing were Kaitlyn Conley, in eighth with a 485; Lauren Smart, in 10th with a 477; Megan Manes, in 12th with a 465; and Susana Vining, in 20th with a 397.
