Mark Mussman, executive director of the Huntington Countywide Department of Community Development, spoke to the Roanoke Town Council during its Tuesday, Jan. 16 meeting about the two vacant seats on the town's board of zoning appeals (BZA).
Mussman emphasized to the council that the BZA cannot conduct its business without at least three members and encouraged the council to continue trying to recruit citizens who might be interested in serving on the board.
Requirements to serve on the board include being a Roanoke resident and not holding elected or appointed office in municipal, county or state government. The term for one seat on the board lasts until the first Monday of 2014 and the term for the other seat lasts until the first Monday of 2015. The board meets only on an as-needed basis.
In other business, the council voted unanimously to renew the town's insurance and President Dave Tucker discussed the possibility of moving the town council meeting room and offices for some of the town's departments into the building that currently houses the Roanoke Town Court, which has been in the process of closing.
