Frances Mae Prater-Shepherd, 66, of Silver Lake, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at 1:05 a.m. at Center for Hospice Care, South Bend.
Mrs. Prater-Shepherd had worked at Timbercrest Health Care, North Manchester, as a QMA and CNA for more than 22 years. She had also worked as a paraprofessional at Madison Elementary School and as an associate at Walmart, both in Warsaw.
She was born March 18, 1946, in Greenville, TN, to Jimmy and Cora Alice Travis Hensley. She married Leonard Prater, who preceded her in death. She was later married to Chandler Shepherd for 18 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Angela (Earl Gene Jr.) Ward, of Warsaw; three sons, Len Prater, of North Manchester; Robert (Tammy) Prater, of Liberty Mills; and Sam (Sarah) Prater, of Warsaw; three stepchildren, Ty (Ed) Kipker, of Warsaw, and Tina (Kevin) Clapp and Terry Shepherd, both of North Manchester; two brothers, Frank (Peg) Hensley, of North Manchester, and Jim (Rebel) Hensley, of Huntington; a sister, Chris (Jimmy) Stephens, of Wabash; and 17 grandchildren.
A service will be held on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at 11 am. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 W. Ind.-114 W, North Manchester, with Rev. Terry Bradford officiating. Calling is Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
