M. Vance Darland, 93, of Huntington, IN< died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at 2:05 a.m. at Lutheran Hospital, in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Vance was a 1937 graduate of Liberty Township High School in Tangier. He worked at E-Systems/Memcor as a lead man in receiving and inspections for 24 years, retiring in 1981. He was also a dairy farmer for several years and had worked at Normandy Farms and also at Eagle Valley Farms both in Indianapolis. He was a 50-year member of Farm Bureau and a member of the Etna Avenue Wesleyan Church.
He was born May 30, 1919 in Mecca to George Clarence and Ermer Lee Sanders Darland. He married Frances M. Mikels on Aug. 1, 1938, in Austin. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include a son, James D. (Clodella) Darland, of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Nancy C. Smith, of Warren, and Linda J. (Gary) Alexander, of Upland; a sister, Sara Imogene Gobel, of Tangier; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Calling is Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A service will be held on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at 11 a.m., with one hour of visitation prior to the service, at the funeral home, with Rev. Tom Bradley officiating. Interment will be at the Lancaster Cemetery.
