Trenton Kern, Noah Reed and Kyle Platt combined for 39 points to lead the Huntington North High School boys' varsity basketball team to a 64-49 win over visiting Southwood on Friday, Nov. 30.
Kern scored 15 points, Reed had 13 and Platt accounted for 11 as the Vikes improved to 2-1 on the season.
HNHS held a 14-8 lead after the first quarter, upped the margin to 30-21 by halftime and went into the final frame with a 48-32 lead.
Kalvin Miller added four assists and three steals to the HNHS cause. Platt was the team's leading rebounder with seven.
The Knights outshot the Vikings pretty good from the field as they hit 22 of 38 for 57.9 compared to Huntington's 21 of 56, 37.5 percent, but the visitors only went to the free throw line six times, hitting three, while the Vikings went 14 of 19 at the stripe for 73.7 percent.
Jackson Blair and Corey Phillipy each scored 16 points to lead Southwood.
A 20-3 run in the second quarter was the difference for the Huntington North High School boys' junior varsity basketball team as it beat visiting Southwood, 48-37, on Friday, Nov. 30.
The Vikes big quarter turned around a 13-6 first quarter deficit and had HNHS up 26-16 at the half.
Konner Platt had 12 points and Derek Snyder and Grant Canady each scored 11 to lead the Vikes. Jordan Seabolt chipped in with seven points.
