James E. "Jim" Miller, 64, of Huntington, IN, died Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 20, 2012, at his home.
Mr. Miller, a 1967 graduate of Bluffton High School, served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1971, spending six months in Vietnam. He earned the rank of corporal and received several military citations and medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and the Purple Heart. He later served two years in the Army National Guard as a sergeant.
He was employed for many years as a milk route driver for Schenkel's Dairy and had served with the Huntington County Sheriff's Reserves. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, American Legion Post 85 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689.
He was born Oct. 3, 1948, in Wells County to William H. and Ramona jean Sills Miller. He married Gloria Ann Ballard on July 27, 1990, in Huntington. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Sabrina Wetzel, of Naples, FL, and Regina Harrison, of Markle; two stepsons, Herbert Yoder, of Houston, TX, and Steven Yoder, of Huntington; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Yoder, of Huntington; four brothers, Steven Miller, of Huntington; William Miller, of Perris, CA; Rick Miller, of Greenwood; and Tim Miller, of Ossian; a sister, Joyce Thompson, of Carthage; four grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
Calling is Sunday Nov. 25, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 .m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Rev. Bob Herman will officiate. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Huntington.
