Sister Gertrude Sullivan, OLVM, 90, of Victory Noll in Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at the Victory Noll Holy Family Health Care Center.
Sister Sullivan entered the congregation of Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters on Oct. 27, 1949, and made her first vows on Aug. 5, 1952. She served in missions in Michigan, California, Nevada, Arizona and at Victory Noll.
She served as president of the congregation from 1971 to 1977. In 1977, she was named by Bishop William McManus as the first female associate administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. She served as administrator of Victory Noll from 1988 to 1992 and moved to Tucson, AZ, the following year. She returned to Victory Noll in 1998 to volunteer in the Holy Family Health Care Center.
She was born July 1, 1922, in Kendall, WI, to James and Marie Langsdorf Sullivan.
Survivors include three sisters, Margaret Laufenberg, of Cashton, WI; Mary Jane Giese, of Ontario, WI; and Marie Brueggen, of Sparta, WI.
A vigil service will be held on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at 7 p.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at Victory Noll Memorial Chapel, 1900 W Park Drive, Huntington. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at the chapel on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., with calling one hour prior to Mass. Rev. Thomas Fahey will preside. Burial will be at Victory Noll Cemetery.
