Richard W. “Gomer” Pyle

Richard W. “Gomer” Pyle, 70, of Roanoke, died Friday, Oct. 16, at his home.

Mr. Pyle was a 1969 graduate of South Adams High School and served in the National Guard.  He worked at International Harvester then as a truck driver for USF Holland for 25 years, retiring in 2012.

He was born Sept. 13, 1950, in Decatur, to Robert and Frieda Nussbaum Pyle. His father survives in Berne. He married Gayle Maxwell on Dec. 19, 1998, in Delphi. She survives in Roanoke.  

Additional survivors include a son, Kavan Pyle, of Pittsburg, PA; two sisters, Betty (Jerry) Burke, and Carolyn (Jim) Moore, both of Berne; a brother, David (Cindy) Pyle, of Berne; a mother-in-law, Rachel Maxwell, of Lafayette; brothers-in-law, Chuck (Debbie) Maxwell, of Rossville, IL, Steven Maxwell, of Delphi, and Russell (Dianna) Maxwell, of Delphi; two sisters-in–law, Rita (Ron) Drew, of Lafayette, and Peggy (Ron) Holt, of Delphi.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Pyle.

Calling will be held Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes.
