Phillip A. Ellet

Phillip A. Ellet, 69, of Markle, IN, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2020, at his residence.

Mr. Ellet had worked for INDOT for 41 years before retiring in 2014.  Most recently he worked as an Engineering Consultant for DLZ Corporation. He was a 1969 graduate of Norwell High school and a 1973 graduate of Tri-State College, where he earned his Bachelors in Civil Engineering.  He was a member of the Union Church where he was a former Elder, taught Sunday school and was involved in their missions program, and was currently Chairman of the Building Committee.  He volunteered for Helping Hands in Bluffton as well as at the Drake Goetz Memorial Park.

He was born on Jan. 10, 1951, in Huntington County, to Ray E. and Betty A. Dennis Ellet. His mother survives in Markle. He married Linda L. Bear on June 10, 1972, at the Union Church. She survives.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Jenny (Nick) Oden, of Markle, Sarah (Nathan) Spitzley, of Jackson, MI, and Rachel (Matt) Stutzman; a brother, Dennis Ellet, of Zanesville; two sisters, Charolett (Larry) Gehring, of Craigville, and Becky (Jim) Beal, of Huntington; nine grandchildren, Alix Oden, Livy Oden, Grace Oden, Flavi Stutzman, Hannah Spitzley, Levi Spitzley, Isaac Spitzley, Zeke Stutzman and Kate Stutzman.

Calling will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Union Church, 3688E-400N, Huntington. Those in attendance are asked to follow the CDC’s guidelines for social distancing and social gathering limits.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at the Union Church with Rev. Rick Hines and David Swain officiating. Interment will take place at the Union cemetery in rural Huntington. Myers Funeral Home in Huntington is in charge of arrangements.
