Richard L. “Dick” Scher

Richard L. “Dick” Scher, 72, of Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, at Parkview Randallia Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Scher graduated from Huntington High School in 1966 and attended International Business College and Ivy Tech. He retired from the United States Air Force after 35 years of service. He worked for 33 years in Fort Wayne Air Guard with the 163rd fighter squadron and then worked at Grissom in Peru with the 434th air refueling wing.  He also worked as a bartender at the Show Lounge in Huntington and also at Lutheran Hospital and St. Francis University in security. He most recently helped with parking cars for funerals at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home.    
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington and Parkview Huntington Family YMCA. He was a third degree member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 1014, American Legion No. 160, VFW Post No. 2689 and the Masonic Lodge Post 483.  

He was born on Feb. 20, 1948, in Huntington, to Marcellus P. and Jane R. Kline Scher. He married Clare A. Schnitz on Sept. 18, 1987. She survives and resides in Huntington.

Additional survivors include a step-daughter, Lisa (Brent) Louthan, of Roanoke; one brother, James D. Scher, of Huntington; one sister, Helen C. McGoughlin, of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  
Calling will be held on Monday, Oct. 12, 2020, from 4 to 7 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Huntington with Military Honors.
Those in attendance are asked to follow the CDC’s social distancing guidelines and mask mandates.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, with Rev. Stephen Colchin presiding.
