Harry E. 'Ed' Bowman

Harry E. “Ed” Bowman, 86, of Hartford City, IN, and formerly of Washington Township, Blackford County, died Friday, June 26, 2020, at 1:39 p.m. due to complications of COVID-19 at IU Health-Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

Mr. Bowman was an operations sergeant-major with the Indiana National Guard state headquarters. He retired from the guard in 1992 after 39 years of service. He was a full-time guard from 1954 to 1990. He worked at H-P Products in Hartford City and was a 1951 graduate of Hartford City High School. He was also a member of the Midwest Open Salt Society, where he had served as a treasurer and had written articles and presentations.

He was born Nov. 24, 1933, in Huntington County to Harry O. Bowman and Helen E. Harriell Capper.

He is survived by three sons, David A. Bowman, of Hartford City; Robert W. (Cheri) Bowman, of Decatur, AR; and Terry E. (Jaunice) Bowman, of Montpelier; three daughters, Cindy L. (Joe) Garrison, of Aberdeen, NC; Tracey A. (Bill) Paxson, of Bryant; and Ann M. (Fred) Miller, of Hartford City; a brother, Gary D. (Carolyn) Bowman, of Hartford City; two sisters, Sherry (Bob) Reynolds, of Hartford City, and Gayle Nelson, of Elkhart; a stepdaughter, Kristine Gardner; a stepson, Bill Wood; 18 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Chad R. Bowman.  

Calling is Wednesday, July 1, 2020, from noon to 3 p.m. at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 W. Windsor St., Montpelier. The family is requesting that everyone who enters the funeral home to practice social distancing and to wear a mask.
A funeral service will follow immediately after at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Marion Bush officiating. Interment will follow in the Brookside Memorial Park in Montpelier. The Indiana Army National Guard is in charge of military graveside rites.
