Kathryn M. Hart

Kathryn M. Hart, 91, of Huntington, IN, died Monday, June 8, 2020, died at 7:40 a.m. at Timbercrest Senior Living Community in North Manchester.

Mrs. Hart and her husband owned motels from 1966 to 1981, beginning with the City Manor Hotel in Michigan City. They later owned both Hart and Broadmoor motels in Marion, retiring in 1981. She was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren.

She was born Jan. 21, 1929, in Huntington to Harry and Clella Haecker Schenkel. She married Lewis S. Hart on Dec. 24, 1946, in Huntington, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 2005.

Survivors include two sisters, Donna (Joe) Katynsky, of Wewahitchka, FL, and Joann (Richard) Deemer, of Bradenton, FL; seven grandchildren, Lisa (Tobias) Ensele, of Carson, WA; Melissa (Travis) Reynolds, of Sandy Lake, PA; Janelle (Matt Watts) Hart, of Pensacola, FL; Cory Salyer, of Kalamazoo, MI; Derek (Crystal) Salyer, of North Point, FL; Sean (Aryana) Salyer, of Fortuna, CA; and Michelle Hart, of West Lafayette; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Salyer; two sons, Larry Hart and Richard W. Hart; a grandson, Kevin Hart; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Lee.

There will be a small family gathering to celebrate Mrs. Hart’s life in Lancaster Cemetery in Huntington County at a later date.
