D. Marie Hockemeyer

Dora Marie Hockemeyer, 83, of Columbia City, IN, and having ties to Huntington, IN, died Thursday, May 14, 2020, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, in Fort Wayne.

After living in several locations as a child, Mrs. Hockemeyer graduated from Central High School in Fort Wayne. She was a homemaker and also worked at the Tunker Store. She later worked at the Sears outlet in Columbia City, Plastic Veneering in Tunker for 13 years, Morsches Lumber in Columbia City for a short term and then served as the first manager at the newly-renovated LaFontaine Center in Huntington for several years. She retired from the position of Whitley County chief deputy auditor in 2007. She and her husband lived in Tunker for almost 50 years.

She was born July 15, 1936, in Indianapolis to D. John “Dick” and Mona B. Albright Turpin. She married DeWayne Hockemeyer on June 15, 1953, and he survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, Richard (Lisa) Hockemeyer, Greggory Hockemeyer and Jeffrey (Sherri) Hockemeyer, all of Whitley County; two daughters, Victoria (David Meyer) Thorson and Lorene (James) Jenkins, both of Whitley County; a sister, Marcia Beasley, of Floral City, FL; a brother, Joseph (Hester) Turpin, of Redlands, CA; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held. Burial will be at Eberhard Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Memorials are to to the Whitley County Historical Society or the Woodlands Senior Center in Columbia City.
