Barbara A. Kastner

Barbara Ann Kastner, 89, of Fort Wayne, IN, and formerly of Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at Coventry Meadows in Fort Wayne, IN.  

Mrs. Kastner was a 1948 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School.  In 1949 she was crowned Miss Huntington.  She was a life-long member of St. Mary Catholic Church and held offices in the Ladies Rosary Sodality of the church. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Columbian Ladies and a former member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority. She was a member of the P.T.A. of Huntington Catholic School and Huntington Catholic High School, holding different offices for many years.

Mrs. Kastner was an office manager at Western Southern Insurance Co. for five years and was the receptionist/business assistant at Paul Hoon Photography Studio for 10 years.  She then worked at Dandy “Lady Shoppe”, Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio, Modern Shoe Store, Double Nice Consignment store and as a receptionist for Dr. Regan.

She was born Aug. 2, 1930, to Francis and Cecile M. Allen Bartrom. She married James H. Kastner on Sept. 30, 1950, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington, and he preceded her in death on Oct.19, 1997.

Survivors include three sons, Michael (Kimberly) Kastner, DDS, of Sylvania, OH; Rick Kastner, of Fort Wayne; and John Kastner, of Indianapolis; two daughters, Renee (Tom) Keihn, of Huntington, and Angela Kastner, of Indianapolis; a brother, Donald (Mary) Bartrom, of Huntington; eight grandchildren, Kevin Kastner, Ryan Kastner, Derek Kastner, Sara Cohle, Alex Kastner, Miranda Knott, Laura Burgess and David Keihn; and three great-grandchildren.

Calling is Friday, March 13, 2020, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington.
Recitation of the Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Additional calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. with Rev. Stephen Colchin officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington.
