Rev. Joseph F. Sumwalt

Rev. Joseph F. Sumwalt, 91, of Warren, IN, died Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at 5 a.m. at his residence.

Mr. Sumwalt was a graduate of Hartford City High School. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Huntington. In 1949 Mr. Sumwalt and his wife became evangelists and they continued to do that for several years. He worked at Fischer Body in Marion, retiring after 25 years.
He was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Randolph County to Harry and Myretta Sumwalt. He married Virginia Myers on May 8, 1949, in Plummers Chapel, and she preceded him in death on July 13, 2015.

Survivors include two sons, Dan K. (Marsha) Sumwalt and William E. (Sara) Sumwalt, both of Huntington; a daughter, Cynthia "Susie" Sumwalt, of Bluffton; two sisters, Mildred Coppock, of Chicago, IL, and Harriet Anderson, of Arizona; a brother, Max (Betty) Sumwalt, of Muncie; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca England.
Calling is Saturday, March 6, 2020, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 7, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., at Glancy-H. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 203 N. Matilda St. Warren. A service of celebration will immediately follow on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 10 a.m., with Rev. Gene Vickery and William Sumwalt   officiating.  Interment will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery in Huntington.
