Thelma G. Lewis

Thelma G. Lewis, 93, of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, March 1, 2020, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice in Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Lewis was a 1944 graduate of Huntington High School. She had worked at Indiana Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator for 30 years. She later worked for Huntington County Community School Corporation in the Huntington North High School cafeteria. She also had worked at H.K. Porter for nine years. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she taught Bible school. She was also a member of Telephone Pioneers of America, Huntington Hospital Guild, American Legion Auxiliary Post 85 and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2689.

She was born July 14, 1926, in Ada, OH, to Virgil and Dorothy Crist Jamison. She married Christian W. Bischoff on Nov. 4, 1945, in Huntington, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1969. She later married Dewain N. Lewis on April 4, 1981, in Huntington, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 10. 1999.

Survivors include a son, David Bischoff, of Huntington; a daughter, Dana (Bill) Tester, of Huntington; a stepson, Charles Brumbaugh, of Huntington; and several stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two stepsons, Ted Lewis and Larry Lewis; a stepdaughter, Bette Willour, and a daughter-in-law, Geryl Bischoff.

Calling is Wednesday, March 4, 2020, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 5, 2020, at 10:30 a.m., with one hour of calling prior to the service, at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel. Interment will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Huntington County.
