Larry D. Colen

Larry D. Colen, 72 of Wapakoneta, OH, and having family in Roanoke, IN, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020, at St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima, OH.

A 1965 graduate of P.A. Allen High School, Mr. Colen served in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1969 and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. He was a former member of the First Evangelical & Reformed Church and a member of the American Legion Post 111 in Bluffton. He retired from a career as an over the road truck driver in 2019.

He was born June 4, 1947, in Bluffton to William Colen and Anna Louise McAfee Kaufman. His mother survives in Bluffton. He married Susan Flor on Jan. 8, 2000, in Port St. Lucie, FL, and she also survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Tiffany Sporn, of Buhler, KS; a brother, Les (Mary) Colen, of Bismarck, ND; a sister, Pamela (Steve) Paxson, of Roanoke; a son-in-law, Dennis (Jeanie) Loomis, of Delphos, OH; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Lynn Loomis, of Monroe, OH; 10 grandchildren, Ian Sporn, Lane Sporn, Taylor Sporn, Grant Sporn, Kirsti Rodriguez, Taylor Hesseling, Auston Presar, Aaron Presar, Emma Presar and Andrew Presar; and five great-grandchildren.

Calling is Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home, 308 W. Washington St., Bluffton. A service of celebration will be held on Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with calling for one hour preceding. Dr. Bryson “Gene” Bell will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton, with full military honors by the United States Air Force Honor Guard and the American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton Honor Guard.
