Wendell O. 'Lefty' Detamore

Wendell O. "Lefty" Detamore, 95, of Marion, IN, and having fmily in Van Buren, IN, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, at 6:13 p.m.

Mr. Detamore graduated from Marion High School. He served in the United States Air Force as a tail gunner on the B-17 Bomber, "The Flying Fortress". He was a co-owner of ACME Sheet Metal and a housing manager for several years with Marion Housing Authority, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Grace Community Church and Elks Country Club.

He was born June 22, 1924, in Mansfield, OH, to Percy and Madge Highley Detamore. He married Mary E. Renn on Nov. 4, 1943, and she preceded him in death.

Survivors include two sons, Rick (Pam) Detamore and Wendell A. (Cheryl) Detamore, both of Marion; two daughters, Berniece (Rodney) Andrews and Marilyn (Jerry) Caudill of Van Buren; three granddaughters, Andrea Detamore and Niki Mansbarger, both of Marion, and Janet Bean, of Phoenix; eight grandsons, Mike Detamore, Jake Detamore, David Caudill, Doug Piper and Kevin Caudill, all of Marion; Wendell Detamore, of Fort Mills, SC; Bradley Detamore, of Wilmington, NC; and Greg Detamore, of Westfield; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Anita Louise Detamore.

Calling is Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Grace Community Church, 1810 E. Bradford Pike, Marion. A service of celebration will follow immediately after at 12:30 p.m. at the church, with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.
