Dean E. Stonebraker

Dean Edwin Stonebraker, 88, of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019, at 3:52 a.m . at Parkview Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Stonebraker was a 1949 graduate of Huntington High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1951, graduated from officer candidate school in Fort Sill, OK and served in Korea. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1959, when he was discharged as a 1st lieutenant.

Mr. Stonebraker worked at Hower Tool & Cutter Grinding in Ossian for 42 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of St. Peter’s First Community Church, where he served as a deacon and an usher for many years. He was a life member of VFW Post 2689 and American Legion Post 7, both in Huntington.

He was born July 18, 1931, in Huntington to Dale and Mary Stetzel Stonebraker. He married Anne Stephan on June 26, 1955, in Huntington, and she preceded him in death on June 26, 2018.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Paula Stonebraker, of Jeffersonville; three brothers, Neil (Sandy) Stonebraker, of Huntington; Arthur (Carol) Stonebraker, of Kokomo; and James Stonebraker, of Roanoke; a sister, Norma (Rex) Jones, of Huntington; and a stepgrandson, Tyler Southard, of New Albany.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Dean Stonebraker, and a daughter, Stephanie Anne Pyle.

Calling is Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A funeral service will be held immediately following at noon at the funeral home, with Rev. Zen Hess officiating. Interment will be at the St. Peter’s First Community Cemetery, where VFW Post 2689 will perform graveside military rites.
