Harold T. Bennett

Harold T. Bennett, 81, of Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, at 10:44 a.m. at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Bennett graduated from Taylors Rosenwald High School and earned a bachelor’s in criminology from the University of New York at Buffalo. He was a sheriff’s deputy for Erie County for 35 years. He retired as a command master sergeant from the United States Army after 28 years of service. He was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Huntington. He was also a lifetime member of both American Legion Post 7 and VFW Post 2689, both in Huntington, and he served as commander of the VFW Post from 2008 to 2009.

He was born Dec. 14, 1937, in Taylors, SC, to Julius C. and Marie Sullivan Bennett. He married Janet Hoch in Rochester, NY, and she survives.

Additional survivors include three sisters, Deloris Peoples, of Columbia, MD; Patricia (Ray) Blassingame, of Orange Burg, SC; and Constance (Paul) Ray, of Elliot County, MD; and two brothers, Henry (Dorothy) Bennett, of Riverside, CA, and Julius Bennett, of Houston, TX.

Calling is Friday, Sept. 20, 2019, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 648 N. Lafontaine St. Huntington, with Rev. Timothy Lorenz officiating. There will be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory in Huntington County.
