Edwin K. 'Ed' DeWald

Edwin “Ed” Kohler DeWald, 84, of Greeneville, TN, and formerly of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019.   

Mr. DeWald graduated from Central Catholic High School.  He also graduate from St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer. He lived and worked in Huntington, where he was a member of the library board, the YMCA board and was the treasurer for St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  He was a member of the United States Army Reserve and served at the Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance Center in Indianapolis.   Mr. DeWald was a certified public accountant and retired from C&C Oil Company in 1998. He and his wife relocated to Naples, FL, in 1998 and later moved to Waynesville, NC, and to Greeneville in 2014.

He was born to John “Jay” and Marie Bresnahan DeWald, and raised in Fort Wayne. He married Harriet Jean Bowers in 1957, and she survives.  

Additional survivors inclulde two daughters, Ellen M. (Darryl) Schultz and Jennifer L. (Mike) Hollowell; two sons, Edwin K. (Rachel) DeWald Jr., of Fishers, and Thomas DeWald; and seven grandchildren, Andrew Hollowell, Brennan Hollowell, Thomas DeWald Jr., Kylee DeWald, Dominic DeWald, Gianna DeWald and Joseph DeWald.

He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel L. DeWald,.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Kuzhupil officiating.  Entombment will be at the St. John the Baptist Columbarium in Waynesville, NC, at a later date.  Calling will be Friday, Aug. 9, following Mass at the church.

Memorials are to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to Notre Dame Catholic Church.
