Cheryl Smith

Cheryl Smith, 71, of Marion, IN, and formerly of Huntington, IN, died Feb. 2, 2019, at Marion General Hospital.
 
Mrs. Smith was a 1965 graduate of Van Buren High School and received a bachelor’s and master’s in elementary education from Ball State University. She later obtained a librarian endorsement as well. She was an elementary teacher in the Oak Hill School System at Sweetser Elementary as well as West Side Christian School. She was the director of the Van Buren Library and a librarian at Marion Public Library. She was a member of Herbst United Methodist Church, the Psi Iota XI Sorority, Grant County Retired Teachers Association, Speeders 55, Red Hat Society, Swayzee Junior Women’s Club, Swayzee Book Club and Herbst United Methodist Church Women’s Society.
 
She was born May 10, 1947, in Huntington to Lawrence and Irma Small Troyer.  She married Norman G. Smith on June 8, 1969, and he survives.

Additional survivors include a brother, Steve (Sarah) Troyer, of Gas City, and a sister-in-law, Joyce (Jack) Grimble, of Waynetown.
 
Calling is Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, from noon to 2 p.m. at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion. A funeral service will follow immediately after at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Jeremy Moore officiating. A graveside service was held at Maple Grove Cemetery.
