Jodi S. Schmits

Jodi S. Schmits, 49 of Sharpsburg, GA, and formerly of Markle, IN, died Jan. 1, 2019,  at 4:11 p.m. at Visiting Nurse and Hospice in Fort Wayne after a four-year battle with scleroderma.

Mrs. Schmits was a 1988 graduate of Norwell High School. She earned an associate’s degree from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. She had worked as the office manager at IU Health in Noblesville for three years, and she also sold real estate for ReMax in Georgia for five years.

She was born Nov. 21, 1969, in Huntington to David and Phylian Thomas Buzzard. Her father, David (Carla) Buzzard, and her mother, Phylian (Ralph) Keefer, both survive in Markle. She married Tony Schmits on May 27, 1996, in Las Vegas, NV, and he also survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, Zach Schmits, Jordan Schmits and Colin Schmits, all of Sharpsburg, GA; a sister, Jami (Kris) McNiece, of Fort Wayne; a half-brother, Cole (Leslie) Buzzard, of Markle; and her maternal grandmother, Marsha Thomas, of Markle.

Calling is Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Markle Chapel, 415 N. Lee St., Markle. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Markle United Methodist Church, 145 W. Morse St., Markle, with one hour of calling preceding. Rev. Steve McPeek will officiate. Interment will be at the Horeb Cemetery in Uniondale.
