George W. Price

George Willis Price, 92, of rural Wabash, IN, and having ties to Warren, IN, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at 12:33 a.m., at his home.

Mr. Price was a 1944 graduate of Wabash High School, and received a Bachelor of Science in 1949 and his master’s in 1953, both from Ball State University. He was a United States Army veteran, serving in both World War II and the Korean War. He began his teaching career in Auburn, then taught at Warren, Elkhart, Selma, Richmond, and Wabash City Schools before finishing his career with the Metropolitan School District of Wabash County, retiring in 1985.

He also had his own catering business. He and his wife cooked for church groups helping to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina, and also several summers for youth attending the Epworth Forest at North Webster.

After returning to Wabash, Mr. Price became president of the Wabash Exchange Club, served 25 years on the Community Service Board and was president of the Richvalley Lions Club. He was a member of the Richvalley United Methodist Church, where he served as lay speaker 10 years, lay leader, delegate to the annual conference and was instrumental in starting the Richvalley tenderloin trailer. He also served two terms on the Metropolitan School Board and the Heartland Career Center Board.

He was born March 30, 1926, in Logansport to William "Chalmer" and Helen S. Hammon Price. He married Cynthia "Cindi" Unger in Wabash on July 19, 1981, and she survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, Jeffrey (Cynthia) Price, of Peru; James (Robin) Price, of Logansport; and Shad A. "Pug" Price, of Fort Wayne; four daughters, Jenni (John) Mohr, of Indianapolis; Janet (Marsha) Price-Lutz, of Terre Haute; and Charlene (Rod) Kelsheimer and Cherylynn (Derrick) Moore, both of Wabash; 18 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Ed) Childs, of Peru; Sarah (Nick) Schroeder, of Greenwood; Greg (Tina) Mohr, of Canton, MI; Drew Price, Ann Marie Mohr and Daniel Mohr, all of Indianapolis; Lindsay Price and Madyson Price, both of Muncie; Chelsea (Tyler) Cosgray of Monticello; McKenzie Price of Oslo, Norway; Cameron Price-Roysdon and Kylee Price-Roysdon, both of Terre Haute; and Kyle Kelsheimer, Kaleb Kelsheimer, Kallen Kelsheimer, Kaden Kelsheimer, Molly Moore and John Thomas Moore, all of Wabash; and eight great-grandchildren.

Calling is Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at the Richvalley United Methodist Church, 250 N. Jefferson St., Wabash, with one hour of calling prior. Rev. Forrest Bowers and Rev. Bill Talbot will officiate. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.
