D. Duain 'Dewey' Fanning

D. Duain “Dewey” Fanning Jr., 90, of Huntington, In, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, at 4 a.m.  at his home.

Mr. Fanning graduated from Huntington High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in business from Indiana University, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He owned Fanning Furniture Co. in Huntington from 1948 to 1980. He owned 711 Travel Center in Huntington from 1980 to 2008.

He was a member and past president of Huntington Rotary Club, during which time he was a delegate to the International Convention in Nice, France. He was vice president of the Huntington Chamber of Commerce and a member and past president of the Cosmopolitan Club. He was the founder and first president of the Huntington Civic Music Association. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntington, where he was a high school Sunday school teacher.

He was born Feb. 13, 1928, in Huntington to Dwight Duain and Mary Barwick Fanning. He married Joanna L. Barr on June 28, 1948, in Rochester, and she survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Robert (Nancy) Fanning, of Syracuse; and Peter (Laura) Fanning, of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, CA; a daughter, Polly (Ron) Heard, of Ortonville, MI; a sister, Joyce Chapman, of Goshen; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Black.

Calling is Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, 10 a.m. to noon at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. A funeral service will immediately follow at noon at Bailey-Love Mortuary, with Rev. Brooks Fetters officiating. Entombment will be in the Fanning mausoleum in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington.
