John L. Baker

John L. Baker, 77, of Huntington, IN, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, at 10:52 a.m. at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Baker was a 1960 graduate of Union High School. He had worked at Hayes Lemmerz in Huntington and was a farmer, retiring from both. He most recently worked as a safety guard at CF Industries. He was a former Polk Township trustee, former board member of the Huntington County Historical Society and was currently on the Huntington Township Advisory Board as well as a member of the Lions Club. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Wabash Primitive Baptist Church.

He was born April 10, 1941, in Huntington to Dale and Pauline Sunderman Baker. He married Joy Oswalt on April 6, 1968, in Huntington, and she preceded him in death on June 8, 2014.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer (Steve) Miller, of Andrews; a son, John “Mike” (Jenn McCann) Baker, of Andrews; and four grandchildren, Brittany Miller, of Indianapolis; Alexis (Jacob) Graft, of Markle; and Braden Updike and Cameron Updike, both of Huntington.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary Miller.

Calling is Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Star of Hope Cemetery.
