Kenneth L. Jarrett

Kenneth Leon Jarrett, 88 of Elwood, IN, and having family in Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at his home after an extended illness.

Mr. Jarrett was a lifetime farmer. He was a member at Harmony Christian Church, where he was a deacon, and later he attended the First Methodist Church.  He served on numerous boards of directors, such as YMCA, Star Bank, Farm Bureau and United States Auto Club and was also a member of the Elks and Masonic Lodge.

He raced United States Auto Club Sprint cars for 12 years, had three United States Auto Club Dirt Car Championships, was a 4-H leader, received an Outstanding Young Farmer award, was a volunteer firefighter for Duck Creek Township and won an Elks state bowling tournament.

He was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Elwood to Leo and Veda Etchison Jarrett. His wife of 67 years, Mary, survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Diana S. (Candace Dietzer) Hook Jarrett, of Kokomo; two sons, Richard L. (Valerie) Jarrett, of Elwood, and Michael L. (Cheryl)  Jarrett, of Huntington; a sister- in-law, Phyllis Jarrett; eight grandchildren, Shannon Hook, Sossidy Caldwell, Rachel Hofer, Kent Jarrett, Lesley Flook, Mary Mauntel, Morgan Jarrett and Michelle McGuire; and three stepgrandchildren, Cassandra Crider, Michelle Prus and Meghan McElhaney.

Calling is Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson St., Elwood. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Doug Bohall and Rich Leavell officiating.  Entombment will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.
