Deloris M. Lefever, 87, of Columbia City, IN, and formerly of Huntington, IN, died Saturday, June 16, 2018, at 4:57 p.m. at her home.
Mrs. LeFever grew up in Jefferson Township, Whitley County, where she attended Jefferson Center School and graduated from Columbia City High School in 1949. She and her husband made their home in Jefferson Township, before she moved to Columbia City in 2013.
In addition to being a full-time homemaker, she worked for a few years at the Tailoring Company, Fort Wayne, as a seamstress, and then Gobbler’s Retreat from 1965 to 1975.
She and her husband traveled throughout the region and in Florida to participate in square dancing events. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, the Red Hat Strutters, Eastern Star, Delta Theta Tau and the Jefferson Township Homemakers.
She was born May 26, 1931, in Huntington County to Howard A. and Ethel Bussard Gross. She married Jack Leroy Lefever on March 17, 1951, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 2001.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet A. (Ted) Knafel, of Columbia City, and Diana (Rick) Creech, of Leesburg; five grandchildren, Kari (Tim) Brubaker, Jayme (Tony) Dee, Michele (Jeff Dornick) Creech, Matthew (Brittany) Creech and Janel (Clint Arambula) Creech; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melissa Creech.
Calling is Tuesday, June 19, 2018, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 pm. at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 207 N. Main St., Columbia City. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Columbia City.
