Mary E. McClelland McElderry

Mary Elizabeth McClelland McElderry, 94, of Huntington, IN, and formerly of Bluffton, IN, died Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Tipton Place, in Huntington.

Mrs. McElderry attended Liberty Center High School and Ball State Teachers College, where she received her degree in nursing. In 1945, she entered active duty as a lieutenant in the United States Army Nursing Corp. and was stationed at Wakeman General Hospital, Camp Atterbury. She was awarded the American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal by President Harry S Truman. She was honorably discharged in 1946. Following her service in World War II, she spent most of her professional career as a nurse at Caylor Nickel Clinic in Bluffton.

She was born in 1923 in Warren, to Gilbert and Rachel Mason Smith. She married Dr. Harry Nichols McClelland on Sept. 21, 1946, in Marion. She later married Richard McElderry, of Bluffton.

Survivors include two children, Marcia Lee McClelland, of Huntington, and Maurice (Susan) Pearce McClelland, of Westfield, NJ; two granddaughters, Jordan (Daniel) McClelland Seme, of Denver, CO and Ashley (Sean) McClelland Hassall; and three great-grandchildren.

Calling is Tuesday, April 17, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 11 a.m., at Glancy-H. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 203 N. Matilda St., Warren. Rev. Lyle Ewing will officiate. Burial will take place in the Masonic Cemetery, East 3rd Street in Warren.
