Halden C 'Hal' Platt

Halden C. "Hal" Platt, 84, of Leo, IN, and formerly of Zanesville, IN, died Friday, March 9, 2018.

Mr. Platt graduated from East Union High School in 1951 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Huntington College in 1955. He pitched for the Muncie Reds, a single A farm league of the Cincinnati Reds. He taught at Muncie schools and coached baseball from 1955 to 1960. He then coached at Albion prior to becoming a teacher, coach and athletic director at Leo Junior/Senior High School until retirement.

He was a member of Leo United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir.

He was born in Zanesville to Arlo and Wilma Platt. His wife, Carolyn, preceded him in death.

Surviving are two sons, Greg (Suzanne) Platt, of Belleview, FL, and Gary (Cathy) Platt, of Fort Wayne; sister, Marlene (Don) Hoopingarner, of Bluffton; four grandchildren, Gregory Platt, Cameron Platt, Lyndsy (Pete) Moore and Matthew (Holly) Platt; and six great-grandchildren.

Calling is Tuesday, March 13, 2018, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Rd., Fort Wayne.  A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Leo United Methodist Church, 13527 Leo Rd., with calling one hour prior. Rev. David Heim will officiate. Burial will be in Leo Memorial Cemetery, Leo.
