Mabel I. Zurcher

Mabel I. Zurcher, 93, of Huntington, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at 3:15 p.m.  at Heritage Pointe of Huntington.

She was a 1942 graduate of Kunkle High School in Kunkle, OH. She graduated from Huntington College in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts. For almost nine years, she was a teacher of English and biology in the Huntington County Community Schools at Monument City, Banquo and Crestview Middle School. She also served as a substitute teacher for many years. Additionally, she taught for 23 years in the Weekday Religious Education Program, now known as the “By the Book” Bible trailer program, of the Associated Churches of Huntington County and was the director for 13 years.

Following her retirement in 1989, she was a teacher in the Adult Basic Education Program of Huntington County. She was a member of College Park United Brethren Church and its Women’s Missionary Fellowship. She was also a member of Huntington University Auxiliary, Huntington County Retired Teachers Association, the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association and the Shakespeare Club of Huntington.

She was born June 5, 1924, in Alvordton, OH, to William N. and Edna Maneval Alpaugh. She married Estel N. Thompson on Sept. 15, 1942; he preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 1943. Her second marriage was to Carl D. Zurcher on June 5, 1951, in Kunkle, and he survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Beverly Ann (Dan) Brauchler, of Converse, and Carla Jeanne Zurcher, of Huntington; a sister, Donna (Taylor) Sharp, of Huntington; two granddaughters, Amber (Jeremy) Roberts and Ashley (Scott) Lindvall, both of Fishers; and six great-grandchildren.

Calling is Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018, at 11 a.m. at College Park United Brethren Church, 1845 College Ave., Huntington, with one hour of calling prior to the service. Rev. Gary Dilley will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington.
