Edward C. Snyder

Edward C. Snyder, 88, formerly of Bippus, IN, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Oakbrook Village in Huntington, where he had been a resident for the past three years.

Mr. Snyder’s formative years were spent in South Whitley. The family later moved to Huntington County, where he graduated from Bippus High School in 1947. In 1948, he entered the United States Army and served during the occupation of Japan and the Korean War. A career long truck driver, he drove for Metzger Trucking, Silver Lake, from 1952 to 1960 and for Nelson Trucking from 1960 to 1969.  He was an independent driver from 1969 to 1994.

He was born June 10, 1929, in Huntington County to Harry A. and Emma Rupley Snyder. He married Annabell Wilfong on Nov. 10, 1951. She preceded him in death on March 10, 2001.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas (Cathy) Snyder, of Huntington, and Allen (Mary Lortie) Snyder, of Albion; two daughters, Nancy Day, of Andrews, and Peggy (David Broxon) Snyder, of Huntington; two sisters, Virginia Doenges, of South Whitley, and Joann Byers, of Winona Lake; two brothers, Richard Snyder, of Muskegon, MI, and John Snyder, of Leesburg; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Sue Snyder, and two grandsons, Mike Snyder and Levi Snyder.

Calling is Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, 208 N. Maple St., South Whitley. A funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, Bippus, with calling for one hour prior. Burial will be in the Bippus Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to Huntington YMCA Champion League or Camp Riley, in care of Riley Children’s Hospital.
