James L. 'Jim' Gass

James L. “Jim” Gass, 76, of rural Markle, IN, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018.

Mr. Gass worked in carpentry, retiring from Kinder Builders, and was also a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Indiana Beekeepers Association, Allen County Bee Society, Fort Wayne Metaphysical Church and American Legion. He was a Wells County Master Gardener and participated in the local farmers market.

He was born July 11, 1941, to Herbert and Erma Walker Gass. His wife, Detta, survives.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Sherri (Gail Hartman) Brugh, Serena (Andy) Marczak and Jenny (Chris) Peacock; two sons, Timothy (Tammy) Gass and Herb (Jana) Gass; two sisters, Bernice Huggins and Ruth Ann Ellis; a brother, Roy (Mary Guthrie) Gass; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Lena Joy Harrison Dean and a stepson, Bennett L. Harrison.

Calling is Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with a memorial service following at 4 p.m., at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 West Mill St., Ossian.
