Bert E. Dills

Bert E. Dills, 83, of Elkhart, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 4, 2017, at Elkhart General Hospital.

Mr. Dills retired as a supervisor in the brass department of Vincent Bach Co., where he had worked for 30 years. He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and was a past commander and life member of Disabled American Veterans Post 19.

He was born March 23, 1934, in Elkhart to Eldred and Ethel Mott Dills. He married Barbara B. Bontrager on May 12, 1956, in Elkhart, and she survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Mike Dills, of Pierceton; two daughters, Marcia Dills, of South Bend, and Marinda (Dan) Meyer, of Huntington; a sister, Carol (Bob) Byrket, of Wakarusa; two grandchildren, Dustin (Courtney) Meyer, of Ossian, and Malia (Tyler) Jaynes, of South Bend; and four great-grandchildren.

Calling is Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart. A service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, at 1 p.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Rev. Steve Reshan will officiate. Burial will be at Zion Cemetery, in Bristol, with military honors by the United States Navy and Disabled American Veterans Post 19.
