Shirley Wilcox

Shirley Wilcox, 88, of North Manchester, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.

Mrs. Wilcox graduated from Central High School, in North Manchester, and attended Manchester College for two years, serving as editor of the college newspaper, the Oak Leaf. She was a farm wife and writer who had more than 100 articles and stories published. For several years, she was employed by Trinity English Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. She sang with the United Methodist Choir and Peabody Entertainers.

She was born in 1929 in Chicago, IL, to Dr. Frank T. and Edna Mae Burrous Younker. She married Marion Wilcox in 1948, and he preceded her in death in October 2006.

Survivors include two sons, Matthew (Sara) Wilcox, of Huntington, and Kenneth Hall, of Columbus, OH; three daughters, Leslie Melcher, of Greer, SC; Rebecca (Brian) King, of Tipton; and Jeannette (Craig Stine) Wilcox, of Greenville, SC; two half-sisters, Phoebe Palazzo, of California, and May Ann (Cameron A.) Hall, of Wyoming; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Calling is Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 Ind.-114 West, North Manchester. A service will be held at the mortuary on Friday, Sept.15, 2017, at 2 p.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Rev. Mark Eastway and Larry Ray will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
