Max M. Putman

Max M. Putman, 77, of North Manchester, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at 3:47 a.m. at Peabody Home, North Manchester.

Mr. Putman moved to his Jefferson Township farm in 1965 and had previously lived in Kansas City, MO; Denver, CO; Dallas, TX; and St. Louis, MO. In addition to farming, he had worked for IBM for 32 years and for Do It Best Hardware for 10 years.

He graduated from Jefferson Center High School and Central Technical Institute in Kansas City, MO. He was a member of Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church, Columbia City Lodge 189 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine.

He was born Sept. 29, 1939, in Whitley County to Paul and Bessie I. Pequignot Putman. He married Rosanne S. Shimer on Dec. 27, 1958, and she survives.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Hayes and Deborah (Michael Geiger) Goelz, both of Huntington, and Susan (John) Smith, of New Haven; a sister, Mary Louise Kearby, of Florida; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A service was held on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be at Jefferson Chapel Cemetery at a later date.
