Richard J. Augspurger

Richard J. Augspurger, 95, of Roanoke, IN, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at 7:05 p.m. at Miller’s Merry Manor, in Huntington.

Mr. Augspurger graduated from Roanoke High School, worked at Roanoke Coil & Engineering for three years, then served in the United States Navy during World War II.  He worked at Dana Corp for three years, then earned a Bachelor of Arts from Huntington College in 1954 and a Master of Science from Indiana University in 1957.  He worked as a teacher in Aboite Township and Huntington County schools and the Developmental Center.  He was a member of Christ’s United Methodist Church, Roanoke, where he held various church offices. He was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and the National Education Association.
 
He was born Jan. 9, 1922, in Wabash, to Victor Robert and Nina Weaver Augspurger.  He married Donnabelle Jacobs on Feb. 9, 1946, in Zanesville. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2003.

Surviving are a daughter, Patti Augspurger Sands, of Roanoke; a son, Terry Joe Augspurger, of Fort Wayne; two brothers, Phil Augspurger and Mark Augspurger, both of Newburgh; and two sisters, Sally Loehr and Shirley Grzegorek, both of Newburgh.  
 
Calling is Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes, 240 Crestwood Drive, Roanoke, and Wednesday Sept. 13, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. preceding the 11a.m. funeral service at the funeral home.  Rev. Joshua Johnson will officiate.  Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.  Roanoke American Legion Post 160 will provide graveside military honors.
