Eugene M. Mendenhall

Eugene Max Mendenhall, 95, of Bluffton, IN, and having ties to Huntington, IN, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at 6:22 a.m. at his home.

Mr. Mendenhall served in the United States Marine Corps. He worked at Indiana Bell Company for 35 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of First Church of Christ, in Bluffton, and had been a member of American Legion Post 111 for more than 70 years.

He was born Nov. 11, 1921, in Wells County to Charles Robert and Addie Jarrett Mendenhall. He married Joan Reiff on Sept. 5, 1953, in Huntington, and she survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Nora (Dan) Lavine, of Bluffton, and Laura (Glen) Bollinger, of Pennville; a son, Dr. Ron Mendenhall, of Idaho; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Calling is Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Goodwin-Cale and Harnish Memorial Chapel, in Bluffton. A service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Rev. Dennis Wood will officiate and military rites will be conducted by the United Sates Marine Honor Guard and American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton.
