Mary R. Paine

Mary Rita Paine, 98, of Fort Wayne, IN, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died Friday, July 21, 2017, at her daughter’s home.

Mrs. Paine graduated from Huntington Catholic High School as salutatorian of her class and earned a degree from International Business College. She worked as a private secretary for the vice president of General Tire during World War II as the Wabash facility transitioned to wartime production for the military. She later served as the secretary to the principal of St. Mary Elementary School, in Huntington, for 17 years and retired in 1984.

She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Fort Wayne, and a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Huntington. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and an officer of the Rosary Sodality.

She was born May 21, 1919, in Peru to John Patrick and Mary Ann Coty Gallagher. She married Richard J. Paine on May 3, 1947, and he preceded her in death on June 20, 2016.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Helen (James) LaMarca, of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren, Erin Brock, Vince (Jennifer) LaMarca, Brian LaMarca and Renee LaMarca; and six great-grandsons.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2018, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to Mass, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10700 Aboite Center Rd., Fort Wayne. Rev. Dave Voors will preside. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington.

Memorial gifts may be made for Masses or to the American Heart Association in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750.
