Dortha E. Baird

Dortha Ellen May Baird, 91, of Marion, IN, and having family members in Roanoke, IN, died Monday, July 17, 2017, at 4:20 p.m.

Mrs. Baird was a homemaker. She had been a member of Hillside Wesleyan Church, which she and her husband helped build, for more than 60 years and, at the time of her death, was the church’s oldest member. She was active in Sunday school, sang in the choir and helped in the kitchen for dinners.

She was born April 29, 1926, in Middletown to Arthur and Kary Jackson Hiday. She married Clarence Andrew Baird on April 24, 1943, and he preceded her in death on July 14, 1994.

Survivors include a son, Marvin D. Baird, of Muir, MI; two daughters, Mary Ellen (Steven) Smith, of Marion, and Kary S. (Dale) Monroe, of Roanoke; eight grandchildren, Korina S. Haga, of Michigan; Marvin DeWayne (Michelle) Baird, of Tennessee; Peter K. (Andrea) Baird and Ryan C. (Lori) Baird, both of California; Katherine E. Monroe, of Nevada; Josh D. Monroe, of Fort Wayne; Suzanne L. Smith, of Converse; and Nathan (LeeAnna) Smith, of Jonesboro; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Calling is Thursday, July 20, 2017, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion. A service will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at Hillsdale Wesleyan Church. Rev. Gary Bingham will officiate. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
