Janet I. 'Jan' Jensen

Janet I. “Jan” Jensen, 88, of Wabash, IN, died Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at 10:01 a.m. at Heritage Pointe of Warren.

Mrs. Jensen graduated in 1946 from Athens (OH) High School and in 1950 from Ohio University, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, a graduate assistant and appeared in campus musicals. While living in Richmond, she was soprano soloist in the First Presbyterian Church. She taught first grade in Mansfield, OH, and later taught in the Wabash elementary schools. She served as director of the Presbyterian Nursery School from 1971 to 1992,

She co-founder of the Wabash Musicale and was a member of Round Table, Indianapolis Symphony Society, Fort Wayne Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota music honorary, Ohio Alpha Alumnae group of Pi Beta Phi and the Woman’s Clubhouse Association. She was a member and past president of Chapter BY of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and served on several committees for the Indiana State Chapter of P.E.O. She served on the boards of Community Service and ARC. She was a long-time member of the Wabash Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir, and most recently attended Wabash Friends Church.

She was born Feb. 2, 1929, in Springfield, OH, to DeForest W. and Katherine D. Deitz Ingerham. She married Robert E. Jensen on June 10, 1956, in Mansfield, OH, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 2014.

Survivors include a son, William “Bill” (Jackie) Jensen, of Columbus; a daughter, Karen (Alan) Riggers, of Huntington; five grandchildren, Nicole (Josh) May, of Bowling Green, KY; Zane (Kate) Jensen and Connor Jensen, both of Columbus; Matt Crosley, of Norman, OK; and Jake (Mandy Bode) Crosley, of Fort Wayne; and a great-grandson.

Calling is Friday, July 14, 2017, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash. A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at 2 p.m., with David Phillips officiating. Burial will be at Falls Cemetery, Wabash.
