Paul E. Leffers

Paul E. Leffers, 89, of Fort Wayne, IN, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at 9:30 p.m. at St. Anne Home, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Leffers graduated from Arcola High School in 1945. He attended International Business College and the University of Saint Francis. He served as a sergeant first class in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed as a truck driver and in maintenance at Sunoco Oil Company, in Huntington.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Vincent dePaul Society and Secular Franciscans. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was born Jan. 25, 1928, in Arcola to Edward George and Bertha B. Buettner Leffers. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kazuko Leffers, on Oct. 3, 1961. He married Mary Coughlin on Feb. 17, 1962, and she preceded him in death on July 10, 2014.

Survivors include three sons, Mark (Virginia) Leffers, of Port Angeles, WA; Jeffrey (Jane Gerardot) Leffers, of Fort Wayne; and Patrick “Eddie” (Kym) Leffers, of Albion; three daughters, Susan Solloway and Nancy (Ted) Poulson, both of Huntington, and Sally (Tim) Ford, of Warren; two brothers, Donald (Jean) Leffers and Arthur Leffers, both of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Kathryn (Phillip) Riecke, of Avilla, and Ruth Stapleton, of Fort Wayne; 26 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

Calling is Monday, July 10, 2017, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, Huntington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at 10 a.m., with calling one hour prior to Mass, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. Rev. Stephen Colchin will preside. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington.
