Wilmer H. Fields

Wilmer H. Fields, 94, of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at 8 a.m. at his home.

Mr. Fields graduated from Odon High School in 1940. He served in the United States Army’s 13th Armored Black Cat Division from Dec. 31, 1942, to Feb. 14, 1946. He was awarded an American Theatre Ribbon, EAME Theatre Ribbon with two bronze stars, Good Conduct Ribbon and Victory Medal.

He worked at Kenosha Transport and as a truck driver for the Sunoco terminal in Huntington, where he had an accident-free career. After retirement, he worked as a driver for Byrd’s Auto Sales and O’Daniels Automotive. He had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, was a member of the Sunoco bowling team and a member of the Lions Club.

He was born Aug. 22, 1922, in Odon to Herbert and Jennie Roberts Fields. He married Mary E. Kirkpatrick on May 3, 1952, at the Forest Park Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2006.

Survivors include a son, Michael Fields, of Spring City, TN; three daughters, Mary Ellen Neuenschwander, of Roanoke; Jennifer (Junior) Geiger, of Huntington; and Holly (Jason) Eaton, of Fishers; a brother, Junior Fields, of Clay City; a sister, Monna Kane, of New Smyrna Beach, FL; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Saturday, May 27, 2017, from 3 p.m. to7 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, in Huntington. A service will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at 3 p.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 530 Guilford St., Huntington. Interment, with military honors, will be at Zion Cemetery, in Huntington County.
